The Young Enterprise Scheme gives students a real experience of how businesses work. Students set up their own companies, raise share capital to buy raw materials then sell their goods to the public. The scheme runs from September to April each year and pupils get to keep their profits (once they have paid the equivalent of VAT and corporation tax). They are helped on the way by advisers from industry and there are various events throughout the year in which students can win prizes and enter competitions.
Key benefits of taking part in Young Enterprise:
- Students have the support of a volunteer from business.
- Students raise share capital to finance the company.
- The company designs and makes a product or service to sell to the public.
- Delivers aspects of work related learning.
- Helps to develop and evidence key skills and enterprise capability.
- Provides a real experience of business enterprise.
Girls at Heathfield have successfully run businesses such as ‘Pom Pom’, ‘Dimensions’ and ‘Tick Tick’ and have taken part in local trading opportunities as well as regional competitions.
Our girls are also offered the OCR Young Enterprise Certificate in Enterprise.
