Should I choose this subject?
You should choose this subject because you will be able to develop your laboratory skills, mathematical ability, mechanical ability, thinking processes and insight in the relevancy of chemistry in the modern world outside the classroom.
What is it about?
You will be learning about the structure and bonding of molecules and compounds; about energy changes and organic chemistry. You will also do practical work which includes organic, analytical, inorganic and physical chemistry. It builds on the IGCSE Double Award content but repeats some of the Triple Award IGCSE.
How will it be studied?
You will be taught in small groups in which you are encouraged to develop your manipulative, observational and deductive skills by doing practical experiments and lessons in which the theory part of the syllabus is delivered.
How will chemistry be useful in the future?
Chemistry is regarded as an essential subject for many courses at university (including medicine) and certainly very useful for many others. Career outlets for those studying A-level Chemistry include: medicine, veterinary science, biochemistry, microbiology, ecology, pharmacy, pharmacology, oceanography, biotechnology, materials sciences, metallurgy, many branches of engineering and agriculture as well as the obvious chemistry and chemical engineering.
