Should I choose this subject?

You should choose this subject if you enjoy improvisation, working creatively as part of a group, performing and working with plays. It appeals to those who enjoy exploring ideas, issues and relationships and analysing how drama and theatre convey meaning.

What is it about?

The course is designed to gives you the opportunity to study plays from the point of view of the actor, director, designer and critic.  You will acquire knowledge and understanding of the language of drama and theatre as well as developing your performing, directing and analytical skills.

How will it be studied?

At AS two plays are studied, in practical workshops through improvisation, discussion and research along with a practitioner who has influenced modern.  You will be directed by the teacher and perform a play, monologue or duologue to a visiting examiner.  Students are expected to visit the theatre and write a critical review for course work.  At A2 students devise their own play and sit an examination which involves research into performance history and your own director’s ideas on how a play would be staged.

How will it be useful in the future?

On successfully completing the course you will have a thorough understanding of drama and theatre, highly toned creative skills and an ability to work with and communicate with others.
