Should I choose this subject?
To succeed at AS and A2 level in French you will need at least an A grade in GCSE. You should enjoy researching discussing and developing ideas on controversial issues. You will be learning to communicate accurately and coherently in different registers. You should be aware of current affairs and take pleasure in reading newspapers and listening to the news.
What is it about?
AS and A2 French covers many issues such as racism, unemployment, abortion, homelessness, the environment, the role of women, as well as films and literature.
How will it be studied?
You will learn French through oral work, listening, reading and writing. You will watch video clips, DVDs, you will use the computers and the Internet and you will read books, texts, newspapers and magazines.
How will French be useful in the future?
With a degree in French (or another subject and French) a great number of careers are open to you and you develop very marketable skills. As well as teaching and translating or interpreting, your linguistic skills could also be of significant importance in careers such as engineering, scientific research, business etc. If you have a modern foreign language as part of your degree, you will be in a strong position to gain a good job in the future.
