 Should I choose this subject?

In the Sixth Form, Religious Studies becomes known as Philosophy and Ethics. The subject addresses issues as diverse as history and science but at its heart is the underlying question about what it means to be human. If you choose Philosophy and Ethics you will embark on an intellectual and emotional journey which can be challenging but always fascinating.

 What is it about?

Both AS and A2 courses consist of modules in the Philosophy of Religion and Ethics/Moral Philosophy. These include questions about the existence of God, ethical theories and how they can be applied to practical situations such as sexual relationships and law and order. In addition to studying how thinkers from the past have tackled these issues, you will be encouraged to keep abreast of current affairs. Philosophy develops critical thinking, a skill which can empower you to live the life you want rather than one that others may want you to have.

 How will it be studied?

Learning is aided by lively class discussions, on-line research, newspapers and videos/DVDs.

How will Philosophy and Ethics be useful in the future?

Universities and employers appreciate that Philosophy and Ethics provides opportunities for intellectual rigour and personal development. The knowledge and skills obtained are an excellent foundation for all university courses and a wide range of careers.
