Should I choose this subject?
You will need at least an A grade in GCSE Spanish if you are to succeed at AS/A2. You will need to be able to write concisely. You should want to discuss and develop your opinions on cultural and contemporary society topics. You should be interested in language and structures, be aware of current affairs both in the UK and abroad and take pleasure in reading newspapers and listening to the news.
How will it be studied?
You will learn Spanish through oral work, listening, reading and writing, you will watch videos and DVDs, you will use computers and the Internet and you will read books, texts, newspapers and magazines.
How will Spanish be useful in the future?
With a degree in Spanish (or another subject and Spanish) a great number of careers are open to you since you will you develop very marketable skills. You can use your language as an important aspect in a career - teaching, translating, and interpreting- or as a minor aspect in a variety of careers such as engineering, law, scientific research, marketing, business etc. Many jobs require or prefer candidates who have knowledge of a foreign language and can work in the global market. International opportunities come more easily to those with foreign language skills.
