They wanted to support the ethos of the charity in which impoverished children in countries such as Malawi and India are provided with an education as a means of empowerment. Therefore, they wanted to broaden the horizons of others by raising awareness of the charity, with the prospect of broadening their own education if they were selected to go to India and teach in a school.
Horizons have been selected as Semi Finalists of the Wings of Hope Achievement Awards 2008/09 and they have been invited to attend on Wednesday, 25 March 2009 at the River Room, Principal State Room of the House of Lords, where they will have the opportunity to give a short 5 minute presentation about their projects to the judging panel, chaired by distinguished actor Sir David Jason.
Hilda said, ‘As a group we all value the first rate education we receive and would wish that children everywhere were given the same opportunity. We raised a total of £601.84 through a range of events, such as a cake sale, coffee mornings at two local Churches, a teacher's quiz and International Day Parade held at school and through a justgiving page. We believe that our creativity and dynamic fundraising events, as well as our genuine concern for the plight of others captured the attention of judges.’
