In September, Heathfield’s Head Girl Team attended the Young Leader’s Conference at the GDST Royal High School in Bath. They learnt about the imaginary Sween Valley, a fictitious area created specially for the conference so that the young leaders present could explore and solve the many problems Sween Valley had in order to make it a more pleasant place to live for its ‘inhabitants’.
The theme of the conference this year, was crime and the possible ways of overcoming it. Some of the tasks the young leaders were expected to complete included identifying ways of tackling certain issues, for example, bullying and harassment in Sween Valley. This was done via short, timed PowerPoint presentations, followed by rigorous questioning from a panel of judges.
The tasks helped bond individual groups together and pushed creative skills to the maximum as the team tried to film humorous, witty and thought-provoking clips for the audience.
Krishni, Head Girl, said “The weekend in Bath proved to be very interesting, it opened our networking opportunities and gave us a chance to develop our teamwork skills.”
The Young Leader’s Conference is a yearly event run by the Girls’ Day School Trust for each of the Senior Schools’ Head Girls’ teams to attend and focuses on a different topic each year.
